Operations

Description or Purpose The Hungry Bin is a very efficient and easy to use worm farm.
High quality construction, it is manufactured in UV stabilised, food grade plastic on a zinc plated frame.
Large capacity processing up to 2kg of organic waste a day, producing quality worm castings and liquid soil conditioner.
Easy harvesting of castings - just clip off the lower tray to access 4 litres of quality compost.
Smell free and clean, it can be installed inside or outside.
Used as a modular unit in multi-bin systems to process any waste stream from small cafes up to large institutions.
Operating Principles The Hungry Bin optimises the activity of compost worms, transforming organic waste into a valuable plant food. The "continual flow" design means never having to disturb the worms, as the feed zone at the top is seperated from the harvest zone at the bottom. The deep volume ensures food waste is properly finished before removing.
Additional Information With simple auditing, the number of Hungry Bins required for your waste stream can be easily calculated. Multi-bin systems can be supplied, complete with worms direct to your premises through direct purchase or a hire and service contract. Wormlovers provide training and support to successfully minimise waste, with corresponding reductions in cost, greenhouse gas emissions, and landfill contributions.

Approvals Related to Use of Output

Important Note on Composting in NSW

In NSW, applying waste to land – including a processed waste such as compost - or using it as a fuel may trigger various regulatory requirements. Depending on the proposed use you may be required to comply with a Resource Recovery Exemption or need to hold an environment protection licence, and pay the waste levy.

While there is a Compost Exemption (2014) it is important to note that drying or dehydrating food waste, or any other compostable waste, is specifically excluded from consideration under this exemption. Drying or dehydrating equipment uses externally supplied energy to heat and ventilate food waste or any other compostable waste in order to rapidly dry the waste material over a short time period (typically 24 to 48 hours), either with or without the addition of an inoculum. If you are interested in this type of equipment you should refer to the resource recovery exemptions for information on lawful use of outputs.

If it is intended to use the material as a fuel, it must comply with the NSW Energy from Waste Policy Statement. http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/waste/140056enfromwasteps.htm
