| Description or Purpose | The Step-On Wheelie bin is a cost-effective recycling solution for outdoors. It has the durability you would expect from a classic wheelie bin, with the added convenience of a foot operated pedal system and educational signs. Australia has fully embraced the Wheelie Bin since its introduction in the seventies. The sturdiness and convenience of this system is well understood, both in terms of maneuverability for the user and the efficiency of automated collection. Our Step-On Wheelie bin leverages this effective design, adding proven vinyl educational signs about recycling and a durable pedal mechanism, which allows users to access the unit without touching the lid. Such additions significantly improve the convenience, hygiene and simplicity of public place recycling and so drive better recycling outcomes. |
| Operating Principles | This 120 Litre Step-On Wheelie is a great cost-effective unit for outdoor spaces such as schools. Popular in stations, the units come in a range of waste stream designs, all in Australian standard colours. All units feature a step-on pedal which is light and easy to access, even for the littlest of kindergarten ‘big’ kids. The lid then snaps back closed when the pedal is released, making the unit waterproof. Alternatively, the lids can be lifted as usual. There are two graphic options to choose from for each stream. The ‘Nature’ design includes our proven graphics, which feature Australian Standard colours, graphical and written instruction and environmental images. Alternatively, given the popularity of this unit for playgrounds, a ‘School’ design is also available featuring cartoon kids. Important Note on Composting in NSW
In NSW, applying waste to land – including a processed waste such as compost - or using it as a fuel may trigger various regulatory requirements. Depending on the proposed use you may be required to comply with a Resource Recovery Exemption or need to hold an environment protection licence, and pay the waste levy.
While there is a Compost Exemption (2014) it is important to note that drying or dehydrating food waste, or any other compostable waste, is specifically excluded from consideration under this exemption. Drying or dehydrating equipment uses externally supplied energy to heat and ventilate food waste or any other compostable waste in order to rapidly dry the waste material over a short time period (typically 24 to 48 hours), either with or without the addition of an inoculum. If you are interested in this type of equipment you should refer to the resource recovery exemptions for information on lawful use of outputs.
