Operations

Description or Purpose Biofeed enables you to reduce food waste and cut your carbon footprint. Installing a Biofeed machine at your business location will streamline your ability to reduce food waste. This innovative solution allows you and your staff to transform food waste into a semi-solid liquid solution before its transported offsite by waste service providers. Food waste is prevented from entering landfills. The circular economy – an economic model whereby resources are recycled and reused - is the future of a sustainable planet.
Operating Principles Biofeed is an easy-to-use system that allows businesses to manage food waste in a sustainable, environmentally friendly, and reliable manner.

With Biofeed you can streamline your food waste management process by keeping track of how much food is being wasted and why it's being wasted. You can also see where it's going so that you can make adjustments for the future.

Biofeed will help your business save money by reducing your food waste and getting rid of it in an environmentally friendly way.

Additional Information Biofeed is high-end technology at the disposal of small, medium, and large businesses bringing your business efficiency to a whole new level. Biofeed works by reducing the volume of food waste – with no chemicals, unpleasant odours and reduced costs.

Cost Savings
By diverting your waste stream from landfill and using Biofeed to process the waste into a liquid form, you will see a significant reduction in disposal costs while closing the loop on the waste stream.

Environmental
Through a circular economy, the Biofeed system helps to reduce greenhouse gases and the subsequent impact on the environment. End users reduce their carbon footprint by converting their food waste into an economic resource which is able to be used in downstream processes such as bio-digestion, and composting. Biofeed helps the environment by lowering the amount of food waste that needs to be transported and lowering the amount of grease and oil that ends up in sewage systems.

With 2.2 million tonnes of food wasted annually and high landfill costs, the commercial and industrial sectors are the biggest food wasters in the nation. Through Biofeed, it is simple to regenerate this waste into green products.

Reduce CO2 emissions
Food waste is predicted to generate 7.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent throughout the course of its degradation in landfills. Biofeed aids the environment by keeping waste active in the circular economy by using it as compost and feedstock for Bio-digestion which contributes to clean energy generation.

Efficiency
Reducing your environmental impact does not have to reduce your organisation's production; in fact, Biofeed delivers a variety of benefits to your operation's continued efficiency.

Space Saving
Biofeed's waste reduction solution replaces several, unsanitary skip bins with a sealed machine and holding tank system.

Vermin Control
Having fewer bins and solid waste in your kitchen and food waste rooms decreases the risk of pests such as mice, who are drawn to garbage sites, as well as stench.

Employee Safety
Biofeed eliminates the need to load heavy rubbish bags into skip bins. Reduce the risk of injury from manual handling of heavy bins and bags of food waste by storing the food waste in conveniently sized caddies and disposing of the waste in smaller batches. For businesses with larger disposal requirements, the integrated bin lifter system eliminates the need for any heavy lifting!

Approvals Related to Use of Output

Important Note on Composting in NSW

In NSW, applying waste to land – including a processed waste such as compost - or using it as a fuel may trigger various regulatory requirements. Depending on the proposed use you may be required to comply with a Resource Recovery Exemption or need to hold an environment protection licence, and pay the waste levy.

While there is a Compost Exemption (2014) it is important to note that drying or dehydrating food waste, or any other compostable waste, is specifically excluded from consideration under this exemption. Drying or dehydrating equipment uses externally supplied energy to heat and ventilate food waste or any other compostable waste in order to rapidly dry the waste material over a short time period (typically 24 to 48 hours), either with or without the addition of an inoculum. If you are interested in this type of equipment you should refer to the resource recovery exemptions for information on lawful use of outputs.

If it is intended to use the material as a fuel, it must comply with the NSW Energy from Waste Policy Statement. http://www.epa.nsw.gov.au/waste/140056enfromwasteps.htm
